AA Bargain Mini Storage
Moving Tip No. 1
Choosing how to move your stuff…
By now you’ve decided to relocate your stuff to a mini storage facility. But how will you get it there?
Do it yourself:
If this a small move, your best and cheapest option may be the brawn-and-buddy approach. Moving beds, couches, kitchen appliances or boxed belongings is easily achievable if you’ve got the right equipment. First, make sure your pickup truck (or sport utility vehicle) is large enough for the items being moved to mini storage. Next, determine what order you’ll move the items. Finally, begin the heavy lifting, er … relocation.
• Things to consider: Do you have a truck or SUV? Can you and a friend physically manage the move? How many trips back and forth will this move require? Do you have equipment to make this move smoother, such as boxes for your belongings, dollies to move the heavy items, blankets to protect your possessions, and twine or rope to tie down your belongings while en route? >br>
Do it yourself, but rent a moving truck:
Your relocation may go smoother if you rent a moving truck. Trucks come in a variety of sizes and you can shop around for the best rates. Remember to get a truck that is large enough to accommodate your relocation, but don’t get too large of a vehicle because belongings will be more likely to shift during the move. Once you’re ready, determine what order to move the items, begin the relocation and head to your self-storage space.
• Things to consider: Can you and a friend physically manage the move? How many trips back and forth will this move require? Have you ever driven a large truck before? Helpful items such as boxes, rope, dollies and blankets usually can be rented from the truck vendor.
Call a moving company:
If you don’t like heavy lifting, or packing for that matter, your ideal solution is to hire a moving company. While this approach can be costly, it is often the least stressful and can produce the best results. Movers will take your belongings from your home or office and relocate them to your storage company. They’ll even place them in the storage container for you.
• Things to consider: Can you afford movers? (Call at least five companies for price quotes). Is this a long-distance move? (Short moves are less-expensive than longer moves). Be sure to notify your mini-storage facility about your relocation, so they’ll expect the movers and be prepared to access your storage space.
